I showed them my "Purple Cactus" blog from my cell phone, how every picture on my Home page's Sneak Preview gallery links to a blog post. That's how interested they were in me. When I said that only my oldest sister and my best friends read my blog, he stood by his insistence that what I am doing is important. For people who don't read my blog, he said, "They don't understand." Then he told me to go to Africa, and said I had to see the animals there. Lois had migrated to another room by then, so I made sure he knew where she went. They ended up at the 1:30 Art Talk on "Pueblos! Pottery! and Personalities!", where I confirmed their names and their ages while they were in line to thank the presenter. Ted is 90, and Lois is 92. How do they stay young at heart? "All of our friends are a decade younger than us," Lois said. Ted added, "We feel so fortunate to be able to do what we do." I told them my Mom died recently, and she was just 78. Lois said, "My mother died at just about that age, too."

Oh gosh, Karen! Nice to hear from you. Glad that Lois and Ted inspired you to comment! He was so adorable that I can hear your specific giggle at the types of faces he makes. What a character!

After living there I have to say Arizona was so different from anything I was accustomed to. If you get the chance, the small Town of Jerome is a delightful and colorful community to experience. I worked as the accounting tech for the town for a time and met some very intriguing people. It's an artist community built on the side of Mingus Mountain with stores and galleries everywhere, a supposed haunted hospital turned hotel, and a turn of the century brothel re-purposed as a high end restaurant named The House of Joy then, as well as now.

The gift of travel - this kind of travel - digging a little deeper - making natural connections with fellow travelers and students of the world! Love this story!

I think you have more readers than you think! I read your blog about everyday and show it to my husband as well! We are always so interested and touched by your travels! Keep doing what your doing! This to me is no different from the motivation you gave me while I was your student; this is just another lesson.
