Kevin disposed of the mouse, who was struggling and alive, and I generously accepted the event as part of living the city life. For example, when my bathtub clogged in my 5th floor apartment on 389 E. 83rd Street in Manhattan, Mr. Godo, my landlord, would say to me, "What did you do this time, Ms. Harmon?" I couldn't even plug two things in at once without blowing the electrical fuses, which could only be replaced in the locked basement with Mr. Godo's help. I had to supply the new fuses, of course. So it goes with the experiences here in Tucson, such as
But, here's the beauty. Here, in this rental, we have the option to walk to the library, to the gym, to galleries and museums, and around historical neighborhoods for leisure. Having a home base so near everything can trump other inconveniences. Yesterday, I did the laundry for the second time. We already have a pattern. Kevin goes out and cleans off the appliances of outdoor debris from wind and rain, and then I walk outside with my quarters, laundry detergent, and bags of laundry. I try not to look in my neighbor's window while I'm there! When I later saw a full-time tenant walking from the side of the house with laundry in tow, I said I was so glad to find out that Kevin and I aren't the only ones to use the machines. Come to find out, we're lucky they've been working. The tenant said, in the fall, all the clothes turned brown in the washing machine and he stopped using them for awhile. Having lived in a similar space for 12 years in New York's Upper East Side, I also know how to appreciate someone's use of space, such as the table in the bathroom (a marble top on an antique sewing machine base). I chalk it up to adventure! Thank goodness I'm prepared for it!
