As Kevin and I walked out of the Pima County Public Library, we passed a vendor with an open cart of books and a sign for a city program that sponsors the book giveaway. As a man got his free book stamped and Kevin was talking about how great the library and things like this are, my eye caught two books that interested me. I'd never seen or read The Paris Review, so I asked if I could have the 1985 paperback. With a stamp on the inside, it became mine. In it, there's a Q&A interview of Robert Stone followed by one of his short stories. I found out he was someone who used to be part of the Jack Kerouac and Ken Kesey beat crowd thang.
The second paperback is a collection of the best of the Independent Presses from 2000. I didn't give much thought to choosing it, mostly curious about what the The Pushcart Prize means, but when I got it home, I found a memoir in it from Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Still reading the memoir, but am enjoying my surprise gift thoroughly!
